About

My name is Mike Hillwig and I live in Salem, MA with my pug, Reggie. I've just started a new DBA (database administrator) job with a high tech company who makes a product I don't understand yet. Originally from the Pittsburgh area, I moved to Providence in December 2004 and then to Boston in November 2005. March of 2008 brought me to Salem on the Massachusetts north shore.

What else do you want to know? I'm an aviation geek, a foodie, have some tattoos and live with Multiple Sclerosis. Anything else, just ask.

Haymarket Haul

I was up about 6:15 this morning and my body just didn’t like the idea of going back to sleep. So I jumped in my car and went to the Haymarket. Driving was a really good move because I wouldn’t have been able to carry everything on the T.

Today might have been the perfect day to go. So many things are in their peak seasons now. Food was plentiful, the quality higher than the last time I went, and prices were competitive. Strawberries were the item of the day. So were mangoes. The hardest thing to find was the blueberries. One seller had them for $2.50 a pint, and I bought two. That set me back a bit. Everything else was pretty cheap.

This entire haul cost me about $25, which is way less than I would have spent at the grocery store.
