About

My name is Mike Hillwig and I live in Salem, MA with my pug, Reggie. I'm a DBA (database administrator) with a high tech company. Originally from the Pittsburgh area, I moved to Providence in December 2004 and then to Boston in November 2005. March of 2008 brought me to Salem on the Massachusetts north shore.

What else do you want to know? I'm an aviation geek, a foodie, have some tattoos and live with Multiple Sclerosis. This year, I'm in my first season singing Baritone with the Boston Gay Men's Chorus. If there is anything else you'd like to know, just ask. I'm hardly shy.

Save the Cookie

It’s time for an entry not related to my vacation. For a while, AirTran has been attempting a hostile takeover of Midwest Air. I’ve mentioned in the past how the clash of cultures would make this a really bad merger. AirTran is a no-frills low cost carrier that caters to the budget-minded traveler. Midwest is a niche player that caters to people who don’t mind paying a few bucks more for top-notch service. Midwest still bakes cookies fresh on the flight. The board of directors at Midwest is seriously opposed to this merger. I agree with them.

Midwest has launched savethecookie.com to help educate the public and garner support.

If you’ve ever flown Midwest and liked their service, I encourage you to go to the site, buy a shirt, and help save the cookie.
