About

My name is Mike Hillwig and I live in Salem, MA with my pug, Reggie. I'm a DBA (database administrator) with a high tech company. Originally from the Pittsburgh area, I moved to Providence in December 2004 and then to Boston in November 2005. March of 2008 brought me to Salem on the Massachusetts north shore.

What else do you want to know? I'm an aviation geek, a foodie, have some tattoos and live with Multiple Sclerosis. This year, I'm in my first season singing Baritone with the Boston Gay Men's Chorus. If there is anything else you'd like to know, just ask. I'm hardly shy.

Utilikilt

I haven’t written for my site in other a month. You’d think there is a lot. In a way there are some big things. At the same time, not a whole lot is going on.

Fredrick was here this weekend. It was an amazing time. At the same time, we both realize that the distance just isn’t going to work. In a way, it really makes me angry. It goes back to the parking space theory. All of the good ones are either taken or too far away. I finally found a guy that enjoys my company as much as I enjoy his. In the time we’ve spent together, sex wasn’t an issue. We never did. It was pretty healthy. It was probably the most mature approach I’ve ever taken to dating a guy. It would all be simpler if we lived closer. But I’m not willing to leave Pittsburgh right now, and he’s not ready to sell his house yet. I will see him again in a few weeks. I need one more round trip on US Airways to keep a preferred status.

By the way, this is my Flight Explorer tracking of his flight. His is in red.

The other really big news is that my Neon is no more. It just wasn’t going to last. The transmission was slipping and kicking pretty hard. I could have either spent the money to replace the transmission, or I could have bought a new one. I just wasn’t having good feelings about keeping the Neon. When I started looking at newer cars, dealerships were offering me about half of what I owed on the car. I was really looking at a 2002 Dodge Stratus, but the financing just wouldn’t come through. You see, for people like me with bad credit, getting a root canal is easier than buying a new car.  I did get the financing myself. I’m getting raped with interest, but I’m hoping this finance company will let me refinance it in a year or so.

I ended up poking around some used car lots, and I was at Bill Gray Subaru, and I saw my Civic. I bought a 2000 Honda Civic EX. It has fairly low miles, a five speed, moon roof, etc. I’m loving it. The one thing it didn’t have that disappointed me was the cargo net in the trunk. I went to a local Honda dealership to get that. I even installed it myself. I felt so butch. grin

I suppose you want pictures of my car. Well, I do too. Unfortunately, I just haven’t been carrying my camera lately. It’s weird. I used to take pictures of everything. I haven’t even taken many Sarah pictures. Who knew…

Speaking of Sarah, I was a mean uncle last weekend. I had to spank her bum. She wanted to stand up on my mom’s fireplace, and she knows she’s not allowed to do that. I told her to get down or I’d spank her bum. She looked at me defiantly and said "No!" Uncle Mike picked her up and spanked her bum, then setting her down on the couch. She cried, running to my mom, who said "He told you to get down." I picked her up again and told her that I loved her, and she just grinned and said that she loved me too. She still loves her Uncle Mike.

For the past six weeks or so, I had a car that I didn’t have much confidence in. I was riding to work with Dave. He typically works 06:00 to 15:00. Yeah, that’s early. My typical day gets me out of bed at 4:15, 4:30 if I hit the snooze. I’m in the shower by 4:40. I’m either on the road, or waiting for Dave between 5:05 and 5:15. We stop for coffee at the BP at the bottom of the hill, and we’re in the office by 6:00. It makes for the start of a long day, but I get more done between 6:00 and 7:30 than I do the rest of the day.

My project is starting to come together. I’m hoping to start testing some of our salespeople by the first of the year. This will be VERY cool.

Friday night, Fredrick and I were watching The Screen Savers on TechTV. The show was okay, but they kept getting on the case of Patrick Norton, one of the hosts because of his Utilikilt. He was wearing it with a pair of cherry Doc Martins and a white t-shirt. I loved that look! But a Utilikilt? I started looking and wouldn’t you know, I found them at www.utilikilt.com. No kidding! I stole these pictures from their site. All of these guys are hot, and I’d love to know what they’re wearing under their utilikilts. grin

Seriously, though, I’m buying one soon. I want this one:

Finally, Windows XP has been launched. I’m afraid to upgrade just yet. I’ll wait for the first service pack. Besides that, I don’t want to spend the $200 right now. I’m thinking that I should buy a new PC before I do that. Who knows.

Anyway, I guess that’s about it for now. I’m hoping to be able to get more done with my site in the future. I need to merge hypermike.com and mikehillwig.com.

  4. I wear one, constantly, to military functions. And all over military bases. It’s not about how accepting *they* are, it’s about how comfortable YOU are.
