About

My name is Mike Hillwig and I live in Salem, MA with my pug, Reggie. I'm a DBA (database administrator) with a high tech company. Originally from the Pittsburgh area, I moved to Providence in December 2004 and then to Boston in November 2005. March of 2008 brought me to Salem on the Massachusetts north shore.

What else do you want to know? I'm an aviation geek, a foodie, have some tattoos, sing with the Boston Gay Men's Chorus and live with Multiple Sclerosis. If there is anything else you'd like to know, just ask. I'm hardly shy.

Hitting the Ground Running

Today was my first day at the new job. There certainly wasn’t a dull moment.  As soon as I walked in the door, my boss had me working on a problem with a system. I think that we got the problem solved. It was a great introduction to the folks in customer support.

My new boss is a riot. His office is in the server room, which is behind a locked door. So instead of knocking before walking in, the card reader beeps, which lets him know somebody is coming in.

I left the office at 7:45. It was a long day. And then my boss called to thank me for my work on my first day.

Yup, I’m going to like it here.

  3. Dear “Sally”,

Most companies google all of their candidates, so one would assume they know. I at least know that one of our helpdesk guys knows because he said he’s read my blog.

Besides, they have to know. They’ve seen me walk.

  4. Seen you walk!  HA HA!  You alternative types are so funny.  Glad it’s working out.  My dh, (an evil developer) read a few of your posts and said “wow…wish we had a guy like that”  I’ll assume he means the computer skills, not the walk wink
