About

My name is Mike Hillwig and I live in Salem, MA with my pug, Reggie. I'm a DBA (database administrator) with a high tech company. Originally from the Pittsburgh area, I moved to Providence in December 2004 and then to Boston in November 2005. March of 2008 brought me to Salem on the Massachusetts north shore.

What else do you want to know? I'm an aviation geek, a foodie, have some tattoos and live with Multiple Sclerosis. This year, I'm in my first season singing Baritone with the Boston Gay Men's Chorus. If there is anything else you'd like to know, just ask. I'm hardly shy.

D-AIFA

Poor Reggie. We just came back from a long walk, and he’s exhausted. We absolutely must get a fan for the bedroom soon. My friend Steven offered up his air conditioner since he moved into a new condo with central air. I do believe we’re going to take him up on that.

Memorial Day. It’s a good day at the beginning of the summer to do stuff around the house. I, being the apartment dweller, chose not to do such things.  Instead, I went to a movie, see X3, and I spent some time near the airport. I got a few decent shots, but nothing stellar.  These were taken at quite a distance with a digital camera as dusk was approaching. The photography gods were not smiling upon me. As soon as I got there, I missed a great shot of a Northwest Airlines A330 taking off.

May I present N618DL, a Boeing 757-200, operated by Delta Airliners.

And N708UW, an Airbus A319 operated by US Airways.

Okay, I did come across something pretty cool. I’ve been drooling over the Lufthansa A340s lately. Well here is D-AIFA, operating as Lufthansa flight LH420 from Frankfurt. This is one of the few Lufthansa aircraft that have their nose cones painted to represent a football (European football, that is) to promote the World Cup which is being hosted by Germany this year.

I have to say that living near Logan has reignited my passion for planes.  I may register mikelikesplanes.com to keep a sub-blog about aviation and planes similar to what I do for mikehasms.com

Anyway, I’m off to bed. My lunch for tomorrow is packed and it’s going to be a long day. We have two new interns starting. Lets hope they’re good ones.
