Guilty Pleasures
May 10th, 2007 by Mike

I have a new guilty pleasure on TV—Shear Genius on Bravo TV. It’s just like Top Chef or Project Runway, except that it’s about hair dressers.

Part of me is rooting for Ben because he’s just really hot with his stretched earlobes, tattoos and mohawk. I want him to win but if I were a betting man, my money would be on Tabatha. I think she’s going to win.

The other show I’ve started to watch is Color Splash with David Bromstad.  The guy is a big queen, but he’s got a hot body with some good ink.

Alice
Mar 26th, 2007 by Mike

When I was a kid, Sunday nights were a big deal for TV. One of my favorite TV shows was Alice.  I’m not sure why, but I pulled up the Wikipedia page on it tonight and saw that it was coming back to TV next week.  It’s also available through AOL’s on demand video. I just watched the episode where Vera thinks that George Burns is really God because she saw him in the movie Oh, God!

Wingnut
Mar 14th, 2007 by Mike

I was listening to the interview with Kristin Chenoweth today on my Sirius at work. She was saying that on The West Wing, Aaron Sorkin had originally written the part of Ainsley Hayes for her, but she was just signing on for Wicked. The part then went to Emily Proctor.

It was a really cool show, and I’d love to get a copy of it.

Death of Lilly Munster

This saddens me.

According to the BBC: Actress Yvonne De Carlo, best known as vampire Lily Munster in US sitcom The Munsters, has died aged 84.

Ina Garten in Boston
Nov 29th, 2006 by Mike

Anybody who knows me knows that I’m a HUGE fan of Ina Garten on the Food Network. She hosts a show called the Barefoot Contessa, which is the store she used to own in the Hamptons. She’s going to be autographing copies of her new book at the Crate and Barrel here in Boston on December 6. I’m SO excited about this.

Christmas Shoes
Nov 28th, 2006 by Mike

Every once in a while I’ll hear a song that makes me cry my eyes out. Today, I was sitting at work listening to my Sirius when this song came on, and it took a lot for me to hold it together.

The song is called the Christmas Shoes and the group is NewSong.

it was almost christmas time, there
i stood in another line
tryin’ to buy that last gift or two,
not really in the christmas mood
standing right in front of me was a
little boy waiting anxiously
pacing ‘round like little boys do
and in his hands he held a pair of shoes
his clothes were worn and old, he was
dirty from head to toe
and when it came his time to pay
i couldn’t believe what i heard him say

chorus:
sir, i want to buy these shoes for my mama, please
it’s christmas eve and these shoes are just her size
could you hurry, sir, daddy says there’s not much time
you see mom’s been sick for quite a while
and i know these shoes would make her smile
and i want her to look beautiful if mama meets jesus tonight

he counted pennies for what seemed like years
then the cashier said, son, there’s not enough here
he searched his pockets frantically
then he turned and he looked at me
he said mama made christmas good at our house
though most years she just did without
tell me sir what am i going to do,
somehow i’ve got to buy her these christmas shoes

i just had to help him out and as i laid the money down
i’ll never forget the look on his face when he said
mama’s gonna look so great

chorus

bridge:
i knew i’d caught a glimpse of heaven’s love
as he thanked me and ran out
i knew that god had sent that little boy
to remind me just what christmas is all about

Flintstonian Execution
Nov 22nd, 2006 by Mike

I was watching the new episode of Top Chef tonight, and Anthony Bourdain was the guest judge. He used the phrase “Flintstonian execution” to describe one dish. It was a priceless quote.

A Chorus Line: The New Broadway Cast

Look what I bought!

(here)

I know, I’m so gay. But seriously, imagine trying to update a Broadway musical that is SO 1970’s.
