Boxes… and more boxes…
I’m starting to feel better about the move. I probably have enough boxes, and things are starting to fall into order. I haven’t even attempted to pack up the kitchen stuff. But I’m getting there. My weekend will pretty much be dedicated to packing.
As I look back at what my apartment looked like when I moved in, this is feeling much better. I think. I just wish Reggie would stop finding things to chew on.
I had a bittersweet day today. On one hand, I made our Director of Administration very happy. There was a report that my boss committed me to completing, but he told her that I might not have it ready for her meeting next week. She was stunned (and thrilled) to see the results today when I walked into her office with it. I looked goot in that sense. On the other hand, I got a phone call that shook me up a bit. It has to do with finances, and I’m just not ready to talk about it publicly. Long story short, my already tight money just got a lot tighter. Funds for the next two months will be brutally tight, but I can make it. I think. Unless something goes wrong with my tax refund (and there is a possibility of that), I’ll make it. But it’ll be rough.
I got to chat online briefly with Dan tonight. Thats the guy I went out with on Monday night. We were supposed to do something on Saturday, but he might have to work now.
Oh, and I watched last night’s episode of Top Chef. I’m not surprised that Miguel went home. He was clearly the one who needed to go home. We know that the producers are keeping Steven just for the drama and impact. But he won’t win. My money is on Harold or Tiffany.
I just sold my washer and dryer. The couple was a nice young couple moving into a place with a washer and dryer hookup. They’re paying cash on Friday. They seemed nice. He was kind of cute. Reggie loved them. I offered to throw my Pug in with the washer and dryer. They passed.
The machines have been disconnected in the basement. Oh, she’s going to freak out when she tries to use my washer and dryer. I get the feeling that she never planned to buy them from me. I think she was going to stiff me up until the end and then claim she didn’t have the money. Well, I’m not being particularly trusting of them at the moment, so I took care of my own interests first.
My coworker Debbie is VERY pregnant and could give birth at any minute now. Her husband (the one who helped me move into this apartment) doesn’t want her driving, and that makes perfect sense. He took her to work this morning, but by 9:45, she was starting to have some pains. I drove her home.
About 2:00 this afternoon, I put out an e-mail to my department with a subject line of “It’s a boy!” When you opened the e-mail, it said “Just kidding. No baby yet!” It was a mean but fun prank. Seriously, I expect this baby to happen at any time now.
When I got home, there were a few goodies in my mailbox. I bought a new pair of 7/8” silicone eyelets for my ears. They’re still a bit big, but since they’re silicone, they’re comfortable. Anyway, my ears will be at 7/8” before too long. But I don’t plan on going a whole lot bigger than that.
I also got my new EZPass transponder. I’ve had one for about three years, and it was issued by the PA Turnpike Commission. Well, since I’m going to be moving to East Boston, I’ll qualify for a discount on certain tunnels, but it requires I get a transponder issued by MassPike. So that’s one less thing I’ll have to worry about down the road.
The movers have been hired. This is a good thing.
Didn’t I say something about staying home for a quiet evening in. Yeah, right.
I was hungry and decided to run out for food. The next thing you know, I was parking my car at Andrew Square and jumping on the T again. I ended up on the green line headed toward Cleveland Circle but ended up getting off at Coolidge Corner in Brookline and walking around a bit. I found myself at Best Cellars and picked up a $13 bottle of Reisling. Best Cellars is known for finding good wines at inexpensive prices. It probably won’t suck. I’ve got to take Beth there someday with me.
As I was walking down the street, there was a woman standing outside a store with a Pug. Of course I had to stop and say hello to the Pug. His name was Isaac. He was six, and he was beautiful. The woman seemed nice. It’s just really funny how people will come up to you on the street when you have a pug. And pugs know when pug people are around. Isaac was so friendly to me. Maybe its because my clothes smell like pug.
I’m starting to think about this move thing. I really don’t have a lot of stuff to move. Considering my health has been shitty lately, I’m going to hire movers if I can afford it. Considering that my biggest things are the bed, dresser, TV, and cedar chest, this can’t be that expensive. Hell, I don’t even have a couch. This will make my life a lot easier.
What is it with me and landlords?
My landlord in Pittsburgh was new, but she had ethics and tried to be good. My landlord in Providence didn’t know how to be a landlord. My landlord now in Boston doesn’t want to be a landlord.
Lets hope the next one is better. He owns more properties and has been nothing but professional to date.
This is good… we had an executive assistant to a senior VP have her laptop stolen. On her laptop was her boss’ e-mail archive. It’s not like we can send her hard drive out for recovery because it’s just plain gone. Her boss is not going to be a happy camper.
I got some good news today. My upstairs neighbor knocked on my door and asked about my washer and dryer. I knew that was coming. What I wasn’t prepared for was her offering to buy them from me. They were a gift from my parents a little over two years ago, and they paid $500 for the pair. I’m selling them for $250. That’s a little more money I’ll have to help move. This makes me happy. It also saves me the hassle of selling them on craigslist.
My new landlord was telling me that one of the nice things about taking the blue line from Wood Island is that you walk home through Day Square. Well, I went to the new ‘hood today to see if I could get myself not so lost this time, and it was much easier this time.
I found Day Square and Spinelli‘s. It’s an Italian market/bakery. One of the things I’ve missed about living in Providence was the food. It looks like I’ll be able to get my food back. While i was there, I picked up some cookies to take into the office tomorrow. I have a feeling tomorrow is going to be a long day.
Whomever said that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line has clearly never lived in Boston.
These are the easy directions to my new place from my old place.
