Really Cold
Feb 29th, 2008 by Mike

My apartment is ridiculously cold right now. The thermostat is set for 68, and its showing an actual of 60. I’m not sure if it’s that somebody upstairs or downstairs turned off their heat or if it’s just really cold outside. All I know is that I’m freezing. I tried putting one of Reggie’s sweaters on him. Oh, he was not happy about this.

Tonight has been surprisingly productive. Several boxes are packed and ready to go to storage. Tomorrow should bring at least one trip to the storage facility. I’m even starting to pack up kitchen stuff now.

I’m supposed to pick up keys tomorrow, but that got delayed a bit due to the impending snow storm. Salem has a snow emergency in effect.

Bob-O-Pedic
Feb 28th, 2008 by Mike

With my sister coming two weeks after I move, I need to make sure she has a place to sleep. So tonight I went out looking for a mattress for the guest room.  I’m going to be taking money I had put aside for a new couch and putting it into a guest bed.

My first stop was a place in Everett that’s going out of business. They have this awesome futon-like thing that’s a microfiber material. I liked it, but when folded out, it’s smaller than a full-sized mattress. That won’t work. So I think I’m going to go out and buy a real mattress. While I really don’t want to spend a small fortune, I want to get something comfortable for my guests.

For about $500, Bob’s Discount Furniture has a full size Bob-O-Pedic Lite. That’s a memory foam mattress. It’s a good mattress, and I really like it. I could probably get something a little cheaper, but then you get just that, cheap. My dad has the same back problems I do (or should I say that I have the same problems he has) and this won’t leave him unable to walk in the morning when they visit shortly after my sister visits.

Speaking of my sister, she’s throwing around the idea of bringing Sarah with her when she comes up. I’m a little concerned because I think Sarah might get bored. At the same time,  Sarah will be awesome at keeping Reggie busy and taking him outside to go potty. You put the Cartoon Network on, and she’s completely entertained.  It’s just a shame I don’t get Boomerang. It would keep us both entertained.

She’s Coming!
Feb 28th, 2008 by Mike

I just talked to my sister, and she’s coming up for my surgery. Most likely, Dave, her boyfriend is coming up, too.

My sister is a nurse. She does geripsych. Yeah, my sister deals with crazy old people. I’m in good hands.

ANTM Model from Worcester
Feb 28th, 2008 by Mike

I was watching the current season of America’s Next Top Model last night and was surprised to see girls from both Boston and Worcester. I don’t like the girl from Boston, and the girl from Worcester decided that she didn’t want to be a model and walked off the show during their first judging. Stupid little girl.

And there was last night’s Project Runway… smile

Jones on Alaska
Feb 28th, 2008 by Mike

One of my favorite airlines, Alaska Airlines, will be serving Jones Soda on their flights soon. (link)

This is so very cool.  Don’t get me wrong, I love my Diet Coke. But Jones just makes a better soda.

Death of an Icon
Feb 28th, 2008 by Mike

Myron Cope died yesterday. (link)

Who? If you’re asking who Myron Cope was, it tells me you’re neither a Pittsburgher nor a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He was the iconic sports commentator at WTAE channel four in Pittsburgh. Everybody in the Pittsburgh area knows his voice because it’s so distinct. He could drive you crazy. But ne was loved by western Pennsylvania.

Myron, you touched us all, and you will be missed.

Membership
Feb 27th, 2008 by Mike

When I bought my TV, I went with Paul to BJ’s and found a really good deal.

Today, at work, we got a pretty sweet offer on a BJ’s membership. I got the membership for about half of their normal price.

Now I’m a card carrying member.

Cars and Keys
Feb 27th, 2008 by Mike

My coworkers were talking today in the “If I had the money, I’d buy a…” type of car.

Screw that. If I had the money, I’d have a driver.

Speaking of money, I spent a lot of it today. Shortly after opening, I went to the bank and got a cashier’s check for my rent in the new place. I pick up keys on Saturday morning. I’m not moving until mid-March.

Under the Knife
Feb 26th, 2008 by Mike

I met with the surgeon today to talk about removing my gallbladder. My surgery is scheduled for Friday, March 28. My friend Drew is coming up for the weekend. The hospital requires someone be with me to release me.

Tre Cool
Feb 26th, 2008 by Mike

Did anybody see this week’s Iron Chef America? I’m just catching it on the DVR now.

The challengers’ sous chef is Tre Wilcox, who was a contestant on the last season of Top Chef.
