Today was an unusual day for work. Instead of of being in the office, I was at our superintendents training session. This year, for the first time in several years, my company brought together all of our supers, local and national. This was a great opportunity for our IT department to update/upgrade/fix any machines that we haven’t seen in a long time. This started Wednesday and continues through tomorrow. Our helpdesk manager asked if I’d mind helping today. Over the course of three days, we touched at least 190 laptops. Several of those were replacements, and about a third of them got updated wireless EVDO network cards. They all got updated software, and it was a lot of work. It was also rewarding. Every one of those guys thanked us. It was a good feeling. IT people often have the most thankless jobs, and it gave me a new respect for our helpdesk staff.
I was feeling really good when I left the hotel at 8:00 to come home and finally let Reggie out. (Fortunately I still had a few puppy pads around.) When I got to my car in the parking garage, I noticed that somebody had hit my car. I was horrified. Tomorrow, I’ll get some pictures. Since I was there for a work function, I’m sure my company will make it right. I don’t know if they’ll reimburse the insurance deductible or just pay for fixing the damage. But I have no doubt my company will make it right.
I’ve had my car since April. It was only a matter of time until she got her first scratch.
