Evolution of Dance
Jan 31st, 2008 by Mike

Have you seen the most popular video on YouTube? It’s called Evolution of Dance, and it’s a riot. It’s been on there at least a year, and it gets funnier every time I watch it.

Just long…
Jan 30th, 2008 by Mike

It’s been a long day. It started earlier than normal because I had to drop my car and bag at the office before taking the T to my doctor’s appointment at Beth Israel. That was with my neurologist. I’m going to be going back on the Rebif. She had suggested that we do a course of intravenous steroids to help deal with some of the issues I’ve been having, but in discussing the side effects and risks, I just can’t do that right now. Oral steroids made me incredibly moody and aggressive, and the IV steroids would be ten times worse. We’re going to try the Rebif for a few months to see if that helps.

After that, I went back to work and had one of those “we need it now” projects dropped on my lap. It wasn’t difficult, but it did take a good chunk of my day. In between that, I was bouncing messages with my new landlord about the lease. Having been a victim of a bad lease in the past, I asked an attorney in the office if she would mind taking a look at my lease. She actually welcomed the diversion, saying that it was a good break from construction contracts. She pointed out a few things that were pretty insignificant but worth noting. The best news here is that I’m not going to get screwed.

Then came the trip to the dentist. This was just supposed to be a cleaning. I swear, I’d rather have a root canal than have Sally scrape my teeth with a sharp metal object and then make me swish that damn fluoride. While I was there, the dental assistant mentioned that my crown had come in and wondered when I’d be in to have it installed. My appointment was for next week. Well, wouldn’t you know that we did that today? After almost a year, I finally have the missing tooth replaced. It looks pretty good, and hopefully it will feel better soon. I’m still a little numb, so I’m still feeling my way around that situation.

When I finally got home about 6:00, two hours later than usual, Reggie and I went for our walk. After that, I’ve been on the phone quite a bit, including Sam, my mom, and my Aunt Velma.

Not a bad day, just long…

McCain Wins Florida
Jan 29th, 2008 by Mike

I haven’t said much about the presidential primaries. Having said that…

—CNN is projecting Sen. John McCain as the winner of the GOP primary in Florida.

My dream election is McCain vs. Obama. Like most voters, I’m tired. I’m tired of deciding which candidate I dislike the least. Just once, I’d love to have to make a choice between which candidate I like the best. I can’t stand Senator Clinton, and I don’t like Gov. Romney much better. I really like McCain, and I don’t dislike Obama. They’re both very Reagan-like in a sense. They both have a vision and a hope for America. They want us to feel good about being Americans again. That’s what I want. After fifteen years of bad presidents, we need to feel good about being Americans again.

Lease
Jan 29th, 2008 by Mike

I got the lease to my new place in Salem. I just have to return it with my security deposit tomorrow.

This makes me happy.

Cocktail
Jan 29th, 2008 by Mike

I’m not sure if this is an established cocktail or not, but I put something together that’s quite amazing. I took a basic screwdriver (vodka and orange juice) and added Grand Marnier. I was afraid of conflicting orange flavors, but damn, this is good.

Which President
Jan 28th, 2008 by Mike

I’m in the middle of watching the 7th season of The West Wing. Tonight is also President Bush’s last State of the Union Address.

Which president is more important right now? I’m thinking that I want to watch Santos become President. Really, though, I’m really wanting to see how they handle the death of John Spencer again. If you’re not a fan of the West Wing, I’m talking about the death of an actor in the middle of the show’s final season.

Yeah, it’s good. Sorry, President Bush, this is better.

Saarbrücken
Jan 27th, 2008 by Mike

I was reading the Wikipedia article about Pittsburgh tonight and it said that Pittsburgh has a sister city in Germany called Saarbrücken. I’d never heard of this city before, so I started reading up on it a bit. It sounds lovely. It’s about two hours from Paris by rail and about two and half hours from Frankfurt by rail.

Maybe I’ll go there some day.

Santos vs. Obama
Jan 27th, 2008 by Mike

I’m watching the sevenths season of The West Wing. Matt Santos is the Latino candidate for president played by Jimmmy Smits.

It got me thinking about the current political situation. Is this a parallel to Obama?

Flashing Lights
Jan 27th, 2008 by Mike

I’m seeing flashing lights outside. When I walked downstairs to do my laundry, I noticed two police cars, one of them blocking my driveway.

I wonder if they got the drug dealer.

Holy Land
Jan 26th, 2008 by Mike

One of my coworkers is in San Francisco for a conference, and she didn’t tell me she was going. If you’re going to SFO, please check with your resident homo, because we know where to go and where to eat.

This was my e-mail to her:

I’m so disappointed in you. When you’re going to San Francisco, you should always check with your resident homo. I’ve been there countless times. It’s like visiting the holy land for me.

Here are a few suggestions:
* Bagdad Café – 2295 Market Street. GET THE BAGDAD FRIES!  (link)
* Go down to Ferry Terminal on the Embarcadero and find Stonehouse California Olive Oil. Last time I was there, they had blood orange olive oil. If you brought me back a bottle, I’d be forever indebted to you.
* Foreign Cinema – http://www.foreigncinema.com/ – They have a really well-known Sunday brunch. You might want to call for reservations. The food is top-knotch. On Sundays, they have a famed mascarpone French toast.
