Lemon Curd
Jun 30th, 2007 by Mike

One of my new favorite food finds is lemon curd. Sure, it’s great on scones and other pastries, but I’ve found it great on chocolate muffins. Honestly, though, the one thing where it’s amazing is vanilla ice cream.

I bought some at Trader Joes and took it to my dad. He liked it too, on vanilla ice cream.

Fireworks
Jun 30th, 2007 by Mike

What is it with the people in East Boston shooting off fireworks while the planes are flying overhead?

The people of East Boston always bitch because of the planes. Nothing would ruin their day more than if their fireworks caused an A320 or a 737 to crash into their house.

Cranberry Couscous
Jun 30th, 2007 by Mike

On the suggestion of my downstairs neighbor and her mother, I picked up some Cranberry Couscous from Whole Foods. It was amazing. Here are the ingredients: Israeli couscous, dressing (canola oil, watter, champagne vinegar, orange juice, honey, garlic, lemon juice, sea salt, white pepper), dried cranberries, pecans, scallion, orange zest, tumeric, thyme, taragon.

At least they give you the ingredients. Now I need to figure out how to make it myself.

Gender Rebel
Jun 30th, 2007 by Mike

I’m watching a show on Logo about people with gender identity issues. I’d never heard the term “Gender Queer” before. It’s people who were born one gender but don’t necessarily see themselves as a specific gender.

Wow… my generation had it much easier.

Saturday Afternoon Nap
Jun 30th, 2007 by Mike

I think Reggie and I have mastered the whole Saturday Afternoon Nap thing. We slept away a good chunk of the afternoon in the airconditioned bedroom.

Trick
Jun 29th, 2007 by Mike

I was on the phone with Sam when one of my favorite movies came on the Logo channel. Trick is such a sweet story. And the fact that Tori Spelling plays a bad actress is is just poetic justice in my book.

First Call Resolution
Jun 29th, 2007 by Mike

One of the ways our helpdesk staff is measured is their first call resolution rate. That’s the percentage of problems they’re able to solve on the first phone call without getting others involved.

While I was covering for the helpdesk staff today, my FCR rate was 67%. That’s right, I solved two out of my three calls by myself. When I say two out of three, I mean that literally. I opened three tickets.  My calls?

How do I log into the spam filter?
Can you reset my Citrix session?
Can I get a new power supply for my T42?

It was the last one I couldn’t do myself. Usually, our helpdesk staff could do this themselves, but I was in my own office and couldn’t leave the phone.

Honestly, it was a bit disappointing. I was expecting to be busy. Instead, I had to pee and couldn’t leave my office.

Coverage
Jun 29th, 2007 by Mike

Our entire helpdesk staff is having a staff outing today. I’ve volunteered to cover for them. Somebody had to do it, and I don’t mind. In my job, I think it’s really important to stay in touch with our user community.

Besides, I want to replace my Treo 700 with the new 755. Since I’m scratching the back of our helpdesk manager, maybe she’ll scratch mine. smile

Annoying Ice Cream Trucks
Jun 28th, 2007 by Mike

Ice cream trucks are supposed to be fun signs of summer, right? Well, we have this really annoying one here in East Boston that’s just really fucking annoying.  The music is loud, it whistles, and then this girl’s voice shouts “Hello?” It will drive you crazy when it parks outside your window.

Now a local politician wants to do something about it. Normally I’d think that regulating ice cream trucks is a really bad idea, but this one needs to be beaten.
