Noise

One would think that the loudest planes taking off would be the big, heavy international flights. Surprisingly, this isn’t the case.

The newer planes tend to have more quiet and fuel-efficient engines. And the more fuel-efficient planes tend to be the ones that go longer distances. So the A340, 767, 777, and 747 aircraft aren’t as loud as one might think. What is loud? It’s those darn American MD-80 and Delta MD-88 aircraft. Those things are loud.  And they fly shorter domestic routes.

The problem is that the domestic flights operate all the time where the international flights generally only operate in the evening.
