Return of the TiVo
Nov 30th, 2006 by Mike

My new TiVo arrived today. It’s all hooked up and is now updating its information. Shortly, I’ll start programming my season passes.

Oh, I’ve missed my TiVo and its beedoop sounds.

Herbal Tea, Part 2
Nov 30th, 2006 by Mike

My sister only gave me a few days’ worth of the herbal tea, so I had to run to GNC today to get some more. This time I got the lemon flavored stuff. It cost me $12 for a two month supply. Oh, the price of regularity.

You know, I must be getting old when I talk about my regularity.

Herbal Tea
Nov 30th, 2006 by Mike

This entry talks about shit, literally. You may not want to continue reading. You’ve been warned.

One of the side effects of one of my meds is that it tends to slow down my GI system. Slow down is putting it gently. My regularity is anything but.

My sister, the visiting nurse, is aware of the problems with my meds because some of her patients are on the same meds. She suggested Laci Le Beau Super Dieter’s Tea from GNC. Since Saturday, I’ve been drinking a cup of this tea, hot, before bed. Good god, you can’t imagine how much shit, literally, my body has purged.  It’s really gross. But I guess I’d rather purge that than carrying it around in my colon.

China Urges Pre-Flight Toilet Training To Save Fuel
Nov 30th, 2006 by Mike

I couldn’t make this up if I tried. (link)

A Chinese airline has calculated that it takes a litre of fuel to flush the toilet at 30,000 feet and is urging passengers to go to the bathroom before they board.

Delta, US Airways, Creditors To Meet This Week
Nov 29th, 2006 by Mike

Oh, Mr. Parker, you are a brilliant man. (link)

US Airways wants to buy Delta. Delta doesn’t want to be bought, but they’re operating in bankruptcy protection right now. US Airways has gone directly to the Delta’s creditors looking for support. This is brilliant, fucking brilliant.

Ina Garten in Boston
Nov 29th, 2006 by Mike

Anybody who knows me knows that I’m a HUGE fan of Ina Garten on the Food Network. She hosts a show called the Barefoot Contessa, which is the store she used to own in the Hamptons. She’s going to be autographing copies of her new book at the Crate and Barrel here in Boston on December 6. I’m SO excited about this.

Christmas Shoes
Nov 28th, 2006 by Mike

Every once in a while I’ll hear a song that makes me cry my eyes out. Today, I was sitting at work listening to my Sirius when this song came on, and it took a lot for me to hold it together.

The song is called the Christmas Shoes and the group is NewSong.

it was almost christmas time, there
i stood in another line
tryin’ to buy that last gift or two,
not really in the christmas mood
standing right in front of me was a
little boy waiting anxiously
pacing ‘round like little boys do
and in his hands he held a pair of shoes
his clothes were worn and old, he was
dirty from head to toe
and when it came his time to pay
i couldn’t believe what i heard him say

chorus:
sir, i want to buy these shoes for my mama, please
it’s christmas eve and these shoes are just her size
could you hurry, sir, daddy says there’s not much time
you see mom’s been sick for quite a while
and i know these shoes would make her smile
and i want her to look beautiful if mama meets jesus tonight

he counted pennies for what seemed like years
then the cashier said, son, there’s not enough here
he searched his pockets frantically
then he turned and he looked at me
he said mama made christmas good at our house
though most years she just did without
tell me sir what am i going to do,
somehow i’ve got to buy her these christmas shoes

i just had to help him out and as i laid the money down
i’ll never forget the look on his face when he said
mama’s gonna look so great

chorus

bridge:
i knew i’d caught a glimpse of heaven’s love
as he thanked me and ran out
i knew that god had sent that little boy
to remind me just what christmas is all about
