Shopping for a Hosting Provider
Oct 31st, 2006 by Mike

I think it’s time to start shopping for a hosting provider. The response times I’ve been getting just aren’t what I expect. Granted, this provider is fairly cheap. But I’m not thrilled.

Job Frustration
Oct 31st, 2006 by Mike

Two years ago, I started planning my move to Providence. Then I moved. And then I found my job. And then I moved again, twice.

I love my job, but I’m less than thrilled with living in Bosotn.  I’ve been saying that if I leave my job, I’m moving back to Pittsburgh.

Right now, my frustration level with my job has reached an all-time high. I need to discuss this with my boss in the morning.  Part of this is my fault for keeping it bottled up and not getting him to deal with some of the issues I’m facing at work.

Superheros
Oct 31st, 2006 by Mike

Today was our Halloween potluck lunch at work. My coworker brought in her six month old baby, costume and all. As soon as I was done eating, I took said baby so my coworker could get some food. Within ten minutes, she was sleeping on my shoulder.

It’s been a while, but it looks like Uncle Mike still has the touch.

Incidentally, my prediction was good. Chris, our senior network guy didn’t have a costume because he took the day off. I had asked for the day off, but Kerm told me that Chris had beat me to it. Darn him.

The IT team won the costume contest and won lunch for the whole team. Since I didn’t participate in the costumes, I’ve volunteered to cover the help desk while the rest of the team goes to lunch. It’s only fair.

Oh, and not once did I hear the “Monster Mash.” heh

Make the Grade or Go To Iraq!

Amen, Captain!

I have to say that Captain Cox is one of my new favorite blogs.  There are about six gay conservatives out there in the blogosphere, and it’s good to read his comments.

Baking Bread
Oct 30th, 2006 by Mike

A couple of years ago, I bought a t-shirt that said “This is my costume.”

I wish I knew where that shirt was right now.

I hate dressing up on Halloween.

Tomorrow is the big Halloween potluck at work. We’re doing superhero costumes as a group. I’m bowing out. I hate dressing up. Besides, I’m baking bread for the occasion. That should more than make up for my lack of costume. I’m willing to bet dollars to donuts that Chris, our senior network guy, won’t have a costume, either.

Baking bread… well, kind of. I’ll be taking in a loaf of pumpkin bread and a load of orange cranberry bread. They’ll both be yummy and I’ve spent quite a bit of time making them. Just don’t tell anybody that they’re from a mix I bought at Trader Joes.

Remember a few weeks ago when my commute was hell when someone shot at a bus and I really had to pee?

UniversalHub picked up my story.

Defying Gravity

Airline Dumbness
Oct 29th, 2006 by Mike

There is a reason some of the airlines are referred to as “legacy” carriers. They’re eventualy going to shrivel up and go away. Let’s look at the latest news from United Airlines. They’re competing with Jet Blue and Southwest in several markets. What are they doing to “compete” with their low cost competitors? They’re raising their fares.

I couldn’t make this up if I tried. They’re really dumb enough to raise fares in markets where they’re trying to compete with Southwest and Jet Blue.

Somebody should have pulled the plug on United when they filed bankruptcy the first time.

International Departures
Oct 29th, 2006 by Mike

I live near Boston’s Logan International Airport. If you can’t stand the sound of airplanes landing and taking off, you should not live in my neighborhood. Fortunately for me, I love planes.

Today, the flights are taking off from runway 15R, which makes them go right over my house on departure. Between 5:00 and 8:00 is great when they do this, because you hear the rumble of the widebody airfcraft taking off for their international destinations. We have at least four flights to London, one to Shannon,  Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Munich, Milan, and Zurich.

Yeah, I like this time of day.
