Dinner for one
Jun 25th, 2006 by Mike

I hear this is something most Germans know about but Americans and the English don’t.  I read about it here.  I found it on YouTube here.

Sunday Eats
Jun 25th, 2006 by Mike

This morning, I was watching Party Line with the Hearty Boys on the Food Network. They were making a tomato basil pasta salad that looked really good. Wouldn’t you know that yesterday I had bought fresh tomatos and basil. It was good, light, fresh, and tasty. Reggie was a little miffed that I wouldn’t share.

After that was the series premier of Guy’s Big Bite. He wasn’t bad.  Tonight is Iron Chef America.

I made meatballs yesterday. They’re seared but not fully cooked. Later this week, I’ll put them in the slow cooker with some pasta sauce before going to work.  Later today, I need to prep some food for later in the week. I have no idea what I’m going to make yet. I have plenty of fruits and veggies to add to the three chicken breasts as well as the onions and peppers I got for the shaved steak. Oh, and I still have some tequila lime chicken in the fridge that needs to be cooked up.

With Sirius
Jun 25th, 2006 by Mike

I got the replacement antenna for my Sirius yesterday. This makes me happy. I’m not going to run it through the car yet, at least not until after I come back from Pittsburgh in a few weeks because that thing is coming with me in the rental car.

Ugly Weekend
Jun 24th, 2006 by Mike

What an ugly weekend. It’s been raining for two days and will probably rain for the next two. It’s been a good opportunity to sleep, or so I’d thought. Reggie had other plans for me this morning at 6:30. He wanted to eat because that’s when he usually eats most mornings. The little shit would not let me go back to sleep, either, until he had eaten. Then we went back to bed until about 9:00. That’s when I got up to go shopping with Beth. It’s become our weekend tradition, and I enjoy it.

I took Reggie with me to play with Brutus and Buddy this morning. I’m not sure what came over him, but he decided that he wanted to pee on Beth’s couch. I was horrified, but Beth took it in stride. With two pugs, it has happened before. I ran for the Nature’s Miracle to clean it up and made Reggie go outside to pee. I really hope he doesn’t do that at my parents’ house while we’re there.

Aside from that, I haven’t done much other than watch old episodes of Star Trek today. Yeah, I’m pathetic.

The pill

Bijou
Jun 22nd, 2006 by Mike

Tomorrow is Hawiian shirt day at work tomorrow. I own exactly one shirt of a pseudo-Hawiian print and I’ve owned it a matter of a few hours. That’s right, I went out and blew 20 bucks on a shirt I’ll probably wear once. But I needed to get out of the house for a while tonight.

While I was at the mall, Reggie almost got a sister. Well, not quite. They had the cutest black female pug puppy at the pet store. Now, I won’t buy a puppy from a pet store because they tend to get them from puppy mills. But still, she was so cute. If I had gotten her (even though I wouldn’t) her name would have been Bijou (bee `zhu) I think. She was just so darn cute. And she liked to give kisses, just like Reggie does.

One pug in this apartment is enough for now. Maybe after Reggie has the surgery for his ESP. Or maybe after he’s a little more mature. But the important thing is that I can’t get another pug right now.

A friend is interviewing at my company tomorrow. She’s going to knock their socks off.

Please keep my friend Sam, her dad, and Murphy in your thoughts and prayers. Her dad was in an accident and is in intensive care. Murphy isn’t feeling well, either. She thinks he may have kennel cough.

sans Sirius
Jun 22nd, 2006 by Mike

The antenna on my Sirius reciever went bad. The new one is on order, but it’ll be a few days before it arrives. These things don’t always last long when the dock isn’t properly mounted, and mine isn’t.

Being a news junkie, it’s my daily fix of news while I’m in the car. I can’t imagine being without it. I won’t be without it when I drive home for Sarah’s birthday.

I had a second date-like-event with Mike last night. It was fun.

Unsafe Airlines
Jun 21st, 2006 by Mike

I have a couple of friends who hate to fly. They fear for their safety. Let me tell you, if our cars were as well maintained as most aircraft (in first world countries, at least), our cars would last for millions of miles and decades, not years. And if drivers were as well trained and tested as airline pilots, most people wouldn’t be allowed to drive.

When I travel, I prefer to stick to big names in airlines, such as American Airlines, US Airways, Air France, or Lufthansa. I can’t say I’d ever fly Star Jet of Kyrgyzstan.  Come to think of it, I can’t say that I’ve ever heard of Star Jet of Kyrgyzstan until today. Having said that, the EU has just banned three more airlines from operating within the 25-nation boundary. (more)
