Slowing down
May 6th, 2006 by Mike

I swear, I’m going to get myself shot on my own street…

I live on a residential street with lots of kids. Lately, I’ve noticed that we get the occasional car that seems to think that this is I-93 and not Trenton Street. They have to be doing at least 40 or 50 MPH down the street, which is entirely too fast. This infuriates me because one never knows when a kid is going to jump out.

I was out taking Reggie for a walk tonight and I heard one such car coming down my street. What did I do? I jumped out in front of the car, scaring the shit out of the driver and causing him to slam on his brakes. I didn’t jump out far enough that he would hit me, but it was enough to cause him to stop his car. At that point, I proceeded to drop my voice at least an octive and scream at him for driving too fast on a street that had kids living here.  I hope I got my point across, but he needed to show some machismo and tell me to “get the fuck off the street”.

My heart was pounding, but I did the right thing. It’s one thing to squeal your tires to show off to a chick, if that’s your thing. But when you come flying down my street where there are kids, I’m going to do what I can to slow you down.

In the Commonwealth of Massachusets, it’s a crime to hit a pedestrian, regardless of where said pedestrian is walking.
