Aiden James
Apr 30th, 2006 by Mike

I went to see Aiden James’ show tonight.  He was really fantastic and I enjoyed his entire set. His songs are from the heart and his voice is golden. I really believe he’s going to go far. I know that I’ll be following his career. His CD will be released in a couple weeks, and you know I’ll be buying one.

We were talking before the show, and I mentioned that I used to live in Philly. He said that he lived in the art museum district. I mentioned that I had a friend who lived near 30th and Spring Garden. He asked if his name was W—-. I said no, his name is Skip. Skip C——-, from the Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus? he inquired. Wouldn’t you know that we both know someone in common.

It was a good show, and I enjoyed it. Tomorrow is back to the grindstone.

Recording…
Apr 30th, 2006 by Mike

My TiVo has been hooked up and I’ve confirmed that it will record tonight’s episode of The West Wing. While it’s recording, I’ll be going to see Aiden perform. I’ve not been to a show in a long time, so this will be fun.

I was a little concerned because the TiVo has a bad input jack. The box needs to be replaced, but I want to wait until the Series 3 boxes come out.

Sunday Morning
Apr 30th, 2006 by Mike

There is something I really enjoy about the peace and quiet of Sunday mornings. I got up, took Reggie out (a feat in and of itself) and then came back to make some coffee. This morning, I filled the grinder with Green Mountain’s Rain Forest Blend, certainly one of my favorites. I sat on the back steps, looking at the city skyline, drinking my coffee, and talking to Reggie. He didn’t have much to add to the conversation, though.

Today’s chores include more unpacking and hanging two more mini blinds in the bedroom. The bay windows had the old roller blinds that were in pretty sad shape, so I bought some off-white (alabaster) mini blinds from Homo Depot. I also need to go to a pharmacy and to Target. I do need to get a few more coffee mugs and some socks. Where the hell have all of my socks gone. Laundry needs to be thrown onto my list of things to do as well because I don’t think I have anything to wear tonight.

Tonight, I’m going to see Aiden James in Somerville.  He’s an openly gay singer/songwriter and he has a golden voice. I found him on MySpace and want to check him out. Besides, I might meet some nice gay boys at his show. smile

Tomorrow, it’s back to work, and it’s going to be an insane day. First, we’ll be arriving to an office space that’s been renovated over the weekend. On top of that, we have a new consultant coming in to fill in for Debbie while she’s on maternity leave. I’ll be doing most of her training. The good news is that she already knows our project management system, just not the way we use it. It will certainly be an interesting day.

And tomorrow, I want to go back to hittiing the gym at least twice a week.

Next Year’s Vacation
Apr 30th, 2006 by Mike

Maybe this is what I’ll do next year for a vacation. I certainly can’t afford to go this year.

Old place… clean
Apr 29th, 2006 by Mike

My old place is clean. Amen. Now I just have to finish painting. That’s not such a high priority, though. My landlord is having an open house tomorrow, and the place absolutely had to be cleaned today.  I’ll be heading over there later tomorrow afternoon to paint in the living room.  I talked to my landlords while I was there. The upstairs neighbors didn’t realize they were there. The landlords experienced just how loud they can be.

I’m starting to make some progress in the new place, but it’s going to take a while.

While I was on my way over to the new place today, I stopped by the office to see the renovations. I’m liking my new cube. It’s really going to look nice when they’re done, which should be late tomorrow night.

Part of me wants to go out tonight, and part of me is just too tired. I think the tired part is going to win this argument.

Reggie and I have been going for a walk a few times a day the past few days. We potty outside now. smile

Ping This

Bloglines just added the ability to ping when you update. Now I don’t have to wait for my entries to show up on bloglines because it happens immediately. That’s very cool to me.

Loveseat
Apr 29th, 2006 by Mike

Steven and I went to Ikea and picked up my loveseat. It will sit two very comfortably and will handle three in a pinch. In the near future, I’d like to get a chair that goes along with it.  But for now, it’s not bad. I’m not sure what I was thinking when I bought it in an off-white, though. I’ll be in Slip Cover city soon.

Now I have to go back to the ghetto and do some cleaning. This ought to be fun.

This is the view from my back deck. It’s even better from the upstairs deck.

Good Coffee and Puppia Harnesses
Apr 29th, 2006 by Mike

Reggie and I slept until about 9:30 this morning. Then we went for a walk since I’m trying to get him away from the potty pads. His harness slipped off him and I think its because the clasp is broken. I’ll try to find a new one on eBay this week. He still doesn’t do so well on the leash, but he’s getting better.

Anyway, Steven will be here in about an hour, and we’re going shopping for my new sofa. I really hope we can get a decent bargain at Ikea since money is a little tight. I refuse to put myself further into debt right now to buy furniture.  I’ve promised myself that there will be no new debt in my life (except unless I have to buy a new car) until my student loans are in better shape. That will take ten months.

I haven’t been making coffee at home for the past few months simply because it was really hard in my old kitchen. Well, my new kitchen allows me the space to keep the coffee maker on the counter, so it’s time to start using up some of the coffee that has been piling up from Green Mountain.  I belong to their Cafe Express club, meaning they ship me some coffee every six weeks. I can control how often they ship and what they ship me. It’s really a great way to buy coffee online. Anyway… This morning, I tried the Wild Mountain Blueberry that I had bought, and I’m not quite thrilled with it. The blueberry flavor just isn’t that great.  Anyway, I have a ton of good coffee in the cabinet that I need to consume, so I’ve pushed out my next ship date until mid-June.

Sofa Hunt
Apr 28th, 2006 by Mike

When Beth and Paul were here last night, Paul noticed the lack of a sofa. I had to leave mine behind in Providence because it wasn’t going to make it into my little place in Dorchester. Well, now, I’m without sofa. Today’s quest was to find one. At Paul’s suggestion, I went to Logan Furniture and didn’t see anything I liked and was in my price range. I just want a small, simple sofa that will last about two years when I’m hoping to buy a condo.  I even looked at Building 19. They had a few things that were okay, but their prices weren’t very good. I finally landed at Ikea. I found one I liked that was even in my price range. Better yet, they had one in their “as is” section for $120. It was dirty and I think my little green machine will make short work of the dirt. Worst case, I can slip cover it. Considering that I have a Pug who sheds like mad anyway, a slip cover might be a smart idea anyway.

My friend Steven said that if I needed help moving a couch, he and his truck would be there to help. I’m taking him up on that. Tomorrow, he’s picking me up and we’re making a trip to Ikea. If we don’t get the one from the “as is” section, I’ll buy one that’s new. I might even go straight for the new one anyway.
