Imports
Jan 26th, 2006 by Mike

I just copied and pasted about 60 entries from August 2005 into my blog. There has to be an easier way to do this. I have several hundred entries that need to be entered.

Sometimes computers can drive you to drink, but when was the last time they’ve suggested you drink?

One year
Jan 26th, 2006 by Mike

I forgot to mention that it was a year ago yesterday that I was offered my job at Shawmut. I’m still a little weirded out by the fact that my boss handed me an offer letter on the spot.

I can’t believe how quickly it’s flown by.

About having MS
Jan 26th, 2006 by Mike

Somebody in one of my online communities was recently diagnosed with MS. I talk to newbies a lot about dealing with my MS. Every time, I recreate the wheel. I should probably save those messages so that it’s a little easier to compose my thoughts in the future. Here are a few exerpts from my messages to her.

I don’t mind at all. I’ve been there. I was 30 when I was diagnosed. The good news is that you’re going to make it. MS therapies have come so far in recent years. Has your doctor put you on any meds yet? I’ve been on Avonex for three years now and will be switching to Rebif in a few weeks.

Did you catch it early? I was very fortunate in that we caught mine very early.

You don’t have to become an expert overnight. Your neurologist has to be your partner through this.

My Aunt Velma was diagnosed almost 25 years ago, and she’s a thriving grandmother of three. If she can make it that long, we all can.

So what do you want to know?

I’ve been on Avonex for three years, and it does tend to make me sick the next day. This can be minimized by taking an over the counter pain reliever like Tylenol or Alieve. I was also taking 5mg of Prednisone with my shot, and that made it a lot better.

My new neurologist doesn’t like my taking the prednisone, so she wanted to try something else. Rebif and Avonex are essentially the same drug, just a different administration of it. Rebif is injected into the skin, where Avonex is injected into the muscle.

I’m very fortunate that I haven’t missed much work due to having MS. I get tired a lot, and frequently I’ll come in a little later or go home a little earlier. My boss is pretty understanding, and as long as the work gets done, he’s not making a big deal out of the number of hours I’m in the office.

You’ll get things worked out. You just have to believe in yourself.

Bully Sticks
Jan 25th, 2006 by Mike

I really love my job. I’m working on some really cool stuff right now, and it’s all pretty high profile. Some of it really reaches to the core of our business, and I’m dealing with some pretty high-level people in implementing. If I do well, that’s really good. But if I screw up, that’s a really bad thing.

From the I’m so gay it hurts department, I bought season three of Wonder Woman on DVD today.

I also bought some bully sticks for the three pugs. They’re 12” long each. That’s a lot of chewing.

Old Entries
Jan 25th, 2006 by Mike

I’m going to be importing some old entries over the next few days. So if you see something that looks a little out of place, don’t be so surprised. I just imported one for my friend Allan. We always seem to be on these kicks with the same Broadway musicals. First it was Rent. Next it was Wicked. I’ll have to get him hooked on Brooklyn next.

So very tired
Jan 24th, 2006 by Mike

I haven’t really updated much lately.

Work is insanely busy. This is good. I don’t have time to be bored.

This weekend, I head up to pugsit for a little over a week. I’m looking forward to this. My goal is to take advantage of having a table so I can do some scrapbooking. Last weekend resparked my desire to do more scrapbooking. I have a ton of pictures of Reggie, and then I have a ton of Buddy and Brutus from several different occasions. I’d like to start there. Then there are the hundreds of pictures of Sarah.

I’m utterly exhausted. Reggie is already snoring. I just need to set the alarm clock, brush my teeth, and then i’ll be out like a light.

Working from Home
Jan 24th, 2006 by Mike

I was working from home day and got a lot done, despite having a pug attached to me all day.

First picture of Buddy
Jan 23rd, 2006 by Mike

I was sifting through some pictures, getting ready to do some scrapbooking, and I came across my first picture of Buddy in the iPhoto library.

How’s this for a first impression?

That’s the face that got me pugged.

Reggie’s First Scrapbook Page
Jan 22nd, 2006 by Mike

We were working on the scrapbook stuff today, and I made several pages. This is the one I did for Reggie.  I’m rather proud of it.

I don’t want to post any others because the whole scrapbook is being sent to Douglas. Oh, if anybody from PV sees this, please don’t say anything. None of the other pages are publicly available until Leslie sends the book out later this week.

I did a Buddy and Brutus page, too. It looks pretty good.

It was really funny to look at our styles of scrapbooking. Leslie says mine is more “Gap khaki” style, classy and traditional. She says hers is more “Wet Seal” in style. I just don’t like puff paint. But I do love my stickers.

Is football season over yet?
Jan 22nd, 2006 by Mike

I originally posted this to the village lounge at Pug Village:

Maybe it’s because I’m gay, but I really am not a fan of American football. I’ll be really glad when my coworkers stop talking about “the Pats” and go back to talking about “the Sox.”

Hockey, I get. Basketball, I understnad. Baseball, I love. But American Football is just too complex for me.
