Bunnies
Jan 31st, 2006 by Mike

I talk a lot about the pugs. But there is another aspect of housesitting that doesnt’ get so much attention, the bunnies. Beth and Paul have two bunnies, Nikki and Moonlight. Both were rescues, just like the pugs.  Tonight, I cleaned out their litter boxes and got them some new veg at Whole Foods. I got them spinach and mint, as well as the kale they already have.

Nikki is getting old, she’s nine. But she seems to be doing well, and she’s eating. I was concerned because she’s lost a lot of weight since the last time I was here. But she’s doing well.

This will make life easier for those of us who live in Boston but want to fly out of Providence.

Rotisserie
Jan 30th, 2006 by Mike

Beth’s rotisserie and the chicken in the fridge didn’t go to waste. Since it was my first one, I didn’t get it quite right and I lost all of the lemon and garlic inside the bird. However, it was still pretty moist.

Bad Statistics
Jan 30th, 2006 by Mike

I’m going to pick up friends at the airport next week. I’m not sure I like the on-time performance of this flight.

Chalk up another one to US Airways and their poor strategies in Philly.

Juice
Jan 29th, 2006 by Mike

I’m loving Beth’s juicer. Earlier, I made a bloody mary with tomato, celery, vodka, salt, and pepper. It was pretty good. I just made a juice cocktail with and orange, a macintosh apple, golden delicious apple, a handful of strawberries, and a shot of vodka. One word: Yum.

Kitchen Gadgets
Jan 29th, 2006 by Mike

I’m housesitting for a friend who is a kitchen gadget junkie. Obviously, I’m not complaining. She has this juicer that completely kicks ass. You’ve never had orange juice until you juice a blood orange and then add some apple juice for additional flavor. I went to the grocery store and bought a ton of produce. I tried juicing a pepper, celery, and a tomato to see what I could come up with. I think it needs salt and pepper, though.

Remembering Challenger
Jan 28th, 2006 by Mike

I was in seventh grade when the Challenger accident happened. Our eighth grade science teacher, Mrs. Kapp,  had been in the running for the opportunity to be the first teacher in space. I know she at least made it through the first round of eliminations.

Drivers License Saga, Continued
Jan 27th, 2006 by Mike

I’m still trying to get my MA drivers license. The last time I went into the DMV, they told me I needed to get a certified copy of my driving record from the state of RI, or they had to have it faxed from the RI DMV. I called the RI DMV. They won’t do any of this over the phone. I paid $18 and got it online. The MA RMV wouldn’t take it since it didn’t have the state seal on it.

I had a floating holiday to use, and I took today off. I needed to get some stuff done around the house because we’re heading out tonight. Then there is that little fact that Reggie and I slept in today. After getting up, I drove down to Pawtuckett, RI to the DMV, to get this stupid thing resolved. I waited in line at the DMV for about 20 minutes to find out they can’t do this at the DMV. I have to go to ‘Operator Control’ in Cranston to take care of this. Gah!

I driive down to Cranston and walk into this little room that was completely overcrowded with people. My first reaction was to go back next week. But I at least waited check in, wondering if the line was as long as it looked. After waiting about ten minutes, I made it through to the check-in desk and find out that I was indeed in the right place and that the line was indeed about 2.5 hours long. I told her what I needed and then started to filll out the little form. I asked which address to use, the current address or the address they had on file. She told me to use the address where I wanted it mailed. Mailed? That meant I didn’t have to wait in line? If I wanted the paper today, I’d have to wait in the 2.5 hour line. Otherwise, they’d mail it to me on Wednesday next week. That was a no-brainer. I handed her the form, my check for $16, and was on my way back to Boston in no time!

On my way back, I did some shopping. Beth is cooking dinner tonight, and I’m bringing dessert. We’re doing a chocolate fondue with dark chocolate, orange zest, and dark rum. This should be yummy.

Now I’m just finishing a few loads of laundry and packing some stuff up. We probably won’t leave here until 6:00 or so. It’ll take a while to get up there since we’ll be fighting Friday rush hour traffic.
